New school year

Welcome back to a new school year.

We appreciate that the transition to KS2 can be a tricky time for some of our children.  Should you have any concerns at all please remember we have an open door policy and you're welcome to arrange to speak to either one of us at any time.

Times Tables Rockstars - Trial

We are currently trialling Times Tables Rockstars in Class 2.   The scheme aims to help the children improve their times table knowledge.

The children really enjoyed the online activities in  class this morning and many wanted to continue playing at home.  They all have a password and username should they wish to login.  The website is linked below for your reference.

This is new to us all so if you experience any problems or have any feedback please let me know.

Autumn English and Maths homework is set every Friday and due in the following Thursday.  This term, the homework will be, mostly, set in the Grammar and Maths Books. Topics set will be based on each week's learning.  Should your child feel unsure about the work please remind them that we are always happy to help them - they just need to ask :)

The children will be sent a weekly spelling list home each week to practise.  They will be tested on a Friday morning.

We would appreciate you helping your child to learn these words and to encourage them to also take the time to ensure they understand what they mean.  We fully understand that some of the words in the Year 3/4 spelling list can be tricky and have a number of strategies available should you require them.

Spelling scribble - all of the children have been shown how to complete a spelling scribble.

Squeebles Spelling App.  A number of children have had great success learning their spellings on this app.  It is a paid for app.

Spelling frame.  A free online spelling programme https://spellingframe.co.uk/

Happy Holidays

The children in Class 2 have really enjoyed the murder mystery maths challenges.  so much so that they have asked for copies for the holidays....we have sent some home but have attached other challenges to our page in case they want to have a go!

Please note that these are LKS2 challenges so Year 3's may not have covered every objective yet.

Easter Homework..

The children have all been given a login to Purple Mash which is an online programme that will be replacing Education City.  There is no specific activity to complete but please enable your child to explore and familiarise themselves with the site.

English homework - after half term we will be writing newspaper reports about Pompeii.  The children have been asked to take a look at newspaper reports to familiarise themselves with the features, for example headlines, speech, and the who/what/when/where and why features of a story.

The only other homework is to have a wonderful break and not to eat too many Easter eggs!!

Time Tables

The children are working extremely hard to learn their times tables in class.  The year group expectations are posted below.  If you can help your child to learn the times tables by listening to songs (see links) or by verbally testing them this will have a huge impact on their ability to move forward in all areas of maths.

By the end of the year children are expected to know:

Y2 2,5 and 10 times tables

Y3 3,4 and 8 times tables

Y4 All times tables up to 12 x 12

Spring Homework

Homework this term will be completed in the homework books.  Each week your child will bring home a piece or literacy (usually a reading comprehension card but may be something linked to that weeks literacy lessons) and a piece of maths homework.

Homework will be handing out on a Friday and is due in the following Thursday.

Any queries please do not hesitate to pop in and see us as we are happy to help.

English homework this term will be in the CGP grammar and punctuation books.  Every child has their own copy.  We will give out the page numbers to complete each Friday and the homework will be due the following Thursday.

Maths homework will be set online at EducationCity.com.  All parents should have received a letter detailing how to logon to the website and locate the homework.  Any problems please don't hesitate to ask.

Singing the times tables

We enjoy singing the times tables in Class 2 and a number of the children have asked for the links to the songs so that they can sing them at home too.  It's so important that the children build on their knowledge of the times tables and so if you have a spare few minutes these songs are worth a listen.

You will find a button on our class page with links to these songs.

*WARNING* These are catchy songs - you may end up singing them all of the time.
